Regionally speaking, adobe is the Southwest’s original building material. Purely “regional”, with a character completely its own, adobe’s ancient roots beg to define the dictates of structural and elegant design. These rules are not easily broken. Clients who choose this material do so for reasons that go back beyond current trends. Adobe is an opportunity for honesty and integrity in material not easily found elsewhere.
Since doing our own research and hands-on adobe restoration in the 70’s, our firm has acquired much experience of this old tradition and have enhanced this knowledge in many of our projects demonstrating its use. Our choices have been about expressing the adobe from a solid foundation to its protecting roof. Our designs in adobe celebrate the material.
Adobe, when properly detailed, specified and proportioned, is a strong, sheltering and enduring material befitting of its claim to be a traditional choice of the Southwest desert regions.
