Solar Earth Builder International picked up on this story written by the architect because of its focus on cutting-edge planning and sustainable design. The journal’s focus on sustainability relied mostly on individual efforts. Here, a collective spirit has been solidified in earth and concrete by the Italian visionary architect, Paolo Soleri. (www.arcosanti.org) Arcosanti is an important project of the 20th and 21st centuries; a succinct example of a “philosophy in action”, as Soleri’s colleagues have termed it. In the early seventies, Soleri called Arcosanti an “Arcology which is a fusion of architecture and ecology” -- an apt concept for addressing the urgency of the environmental nexus we face today.
