This house was commissioned by an Anchorage based developer. The owner, an architect himself, wanted our firm to design a 6000 square foot residence efficiently modeled after more commercial construction systems and proportions. The house was designed using simple framing material and trusses along with uniform simple geometry, high ceilings and spacious volumes.

The outcome was a very cost-effective structure and exceptionally straightforward floor plan laid out in four even framing modules. We wanted the exterior to be low profile and to fit harmoniously and non-obtrusively with its lush surrounding desert. In order to capture the best views, the northwest exposed “Arizona” room would have to buffer the living areas just behind it from the strong setting desert sun.

An organizing courtyard separates the main house from a three-car garage and storage building. An exceptionally finished landscaped courtyard appearance required expensive mature plants that were afforded by savings resulting from the rational layout of the home.
